A Canadian foundation with an office in New York, which publishes a booklet listing hospitals and English-speaking physicians who have agreed to adhere to a standard schedule of fees. There is no membership fee but a donation of $15.00 is encouraged for the health guide; they have other services, such as mosquito netting for sleeping quarters which can be purchased through their internet online service.

CDC provides malaria advisories, immunization schedules, disease risk and prevention information by regions of the world. NOTE! Physicians and other medical personnel can consult directly with a CDC medical advisor if they need information on the clinical management of a patient with a tropical or infectious disease.

There is an advantage in calling the Public Health Service. Unlike the CDC hotline, these numbers provide person-to-person consultation with a Public Health Service travel advisor. Call either CDC or Public Health to get the best advise. All times are local to the area.

Insurance


Check your existing health care policy to determine what type of coverage is available for medical emergencies while traveling outside the USA.

If your current health insurance policy does not cover medical care abroad, or you are without any coverage, you should consider purchasing a travel health-specific insurance policy(see below). Even if your present insurance will pay doctor and hospital bills abroad, you may want to purchase a travel policy to get some important additional benefits, such as air ambulance transportation and immediate payment of incurred medical expenses.
